On Complexity
Narcissistic authority is a form of authority which can, with its correlation with antisocial personality disorder, develop psychopathy. The god-complex is a psychological complexity that confuses the self-concept with the essence of human divinity, within the spirit of the individual. The ego is the perpetrator of this arrogance, and the positive social feedback (praise/compliment) one receives can also influence this architectural construction in the mind. The thoughts we have permeate the world around us; and if an individual, no matter how clinically detached they are from automacy and good intention, believes that they are the supreme being and universe creator, the energy they emit is unconsciously perceived as authoritative. Naturally, we are vulnerable to this illusion of omnipotence, in ourselves and in others. We don’t expect that another human can persuade themselves to be God. Even if we did expect it, how would we defend ourselves against it? Mimesis? Humans purposefully develop symptoms of antisocial personality disorder (such as the god-complex) to defend against other humans who naturally develop these symptoms.
This phenomenon is a severe risk in the process of analysis. Because the patient is already prepared to submit to the authority of the analyst, doctoral and didactic, the excess psychological adoration that comes from the fusion of the doctoral influence and the narcissistic influence is even greater vulnerability for the patient. Not only is the doctor claiming to have knowledge and skills that could help the patient, he is also claiming omnipotence. If you simply sacrifice your agency entirely to me, your world will drastically change for the better– a promise that goes unblemished enough to persuade the patient into believing fully in the powers and authority of the doctor. The unconscious of the patient is confused in its fixation on the illusion of the doctor’s power, and because of the madness festering, working to dispel the truth, the patient cannot defend himself against an act of violence by the doctor. The psychopathic psychoanalyst is, more than likely, a narcissist.
Constructing this complexity within the mind is a moral violation of the imagination, nature, and civilization. The only requirement that this complexity has to inflame and begin its convolution of perception is continual affirmation. Our minds, as humans, naturally react with aversion to self-identifying as God. Breaking down this reaction is the only obstacle threatening the inferiority of the narcissist. The power of persuasion can manifest in many forms to persuade consciousness of its divinity. The individual is not tempted, per se, to identify as God– they are simply compelled, personally, to exaggerate their own identity out of insecurity and hubris. The god-complex allows narcissistic aggression to flood consciousness more freely. There are benefits and downsides to this. A master of creativity may utilize this dam of aggression by poking holes and experimenting with the pathology, if they are careful. Audacity in this realm is punished by severe social consequences. You will end up hurting people if you construct a god-complex within your mind. The more you flirt with narcissistic aggression, the more comfortable you are with manipulating the dam. The purpose of the dam is to filter what and how much emotion enters consciousness. There are plenty of unconscious thresholds, such as this one, that protect consciousness from dangerous and unethical philosophy. Prior to examining the effects and causes of the narcissistic aggression, the individual is already swept into the ecstatic feeling. By transgressing in this way, the individual is taking a severe risk. Most psychopaths naturally transgress into complexity, and feel fear and remorse; but their power and efficiency of rationalizing the violations of nature is what compels them to continue with fervor. Anyone open to expressing factors and implications of complexity construction is aware enough of the mind’s inner workings to either taunt or tempt others to do the same, or lose control entirely out of blatant disregard for philosophical security.
